Life again
So now that my son has turned 1, life is continuing. I have so many ideas of what I want to do with my future, and so many fun things I want to plan with my son. And I also want to blog more! I have to thank blogger for giving me a start and a true taste for the world of blogging. It's a nice way to release creativity- and vent- all in one! I am in the process of so many different things! I'm preparing to go back to school, I would like to start a small business and I'd like to start crafting some more. And get organized. And there you have a small part of my universe :)

Ecotools
So in my efforts to recycle and lighten my carbon footprint, I purchased these neat little brushes. Alicia silverstone apparently has made some brushes for them as well. They are made with recycled aluminum, cruelty free brushes and bamboo handles. They are also quite affordable- this Small set was about 13 bucks- and Ulta has a buy one get one 50% off. I also purchased their loofah and other brushes. So far so good. Much of the packaging is also made of hemp- which is an awesome fabric by the way. So if you're looking to not use plastic and reuse materials, buy ecotools! They are also a member of the 1% for the planet.

Envirosax
Upon learning that los Angeles has banned plastic bags (yay!) I stumbled upon a website called envirosax.com. I wanted to cut down on my waste of plastic. Although their bags are made of nylon, they do offer cotton alternatives. So far, the bags have worked great! I got some of their green grocer bags and I got some of the kid bags for my son. And just in case you weren't aware, you get 5 cents off at Target and Ralph's when you bring your own bags. A small incentive, but it adds up!

Getting rid of my lead lipstick
I ran into an article by the campaign for safe cosmetics that tested multiple brands of lipstick and found that several had lead. Although lead is common, it is not acceptable to have this in an item that when applied is so close to the mouth. And leads to your stomach. Loreal and revlon were two that surprised me. So out goes their lipstick.

Plastic bags get the boot!
So maybe you haven't heard- but plastic bags have been banned in LA! So starts the transition period to have people bring their own bags to stores. Envirosax makes some very cute and very durable bags- the grocery bags I believe hold up to 44 pounds! And Target takes 5 cents off your purchase for every bag you bring in. Not a lot but a nice discount for not creating any waste. So start saving done bags- you're gong to need them!

My bag of crap
Earlier this year, I wanted to use everything in my medicine cabinet before I bought more things. Why? Because I wanted to eliminate clutter from my life. What I found out was unsettling. I began to look into the ingredients that some of my products were made with, and it started to scare me a bit. So now, I'm throwing these out- unless of course, the packaging can be recycled. I can't believe how long it took me to really read the labels and actually look up what these ingredients really are!

Going through the medicine cabinet....
Earlier this year, I didn't want to buy any more products until I had finished using what I already owned. That isn't work out so well- I ended up buying stuff. But here is one that I hope none of you waste your money on- Nivea's good-bye cellulite gel. It made my dimples a little softer. But they were still there. Better off going on a walk and drinking water. To top it off, it's not even recyclable packaging!

Baby bottles
Glass bottles anyone?? Does anyone notice that most baby bottles say "bpa free" or "no PVC." I decided to look up what this stuff meant and it looks like they are chemicals that certain plastics give off. This isn't true of glass bottles. After doing a bit of research, glass bottles are actually a better alternative to plastic because you don't get any harmful toxins and the milk retains airs normal taste. The only issue of course is breakage. They make silicone cover to make the bottles less likely to break. I will be trying these from evenflo- at 6 bucks for a package of 3, you can't beat it! well see how it goes!

Baby stuff...
I was doing some research and I stumbled upon this company. I was interested so I ordered a trial pack. The company's name is the honest company. They make baby safe toiletries and home cleaning supplies. Their biggest draw is the biodegradable diapers and wipes. You can't buy it in stores yet, but you can have it ordered to your home. Can't wait to try this out!

Post baby
I've decided that now that I've had a baby for a few months, I can begin to review the ridiculous amounts of products that I have received or purchased for this baby. I hope this helps new moms in their wonderful journey through motherhood.
